Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is the website safe to leave my credit/debit card details on?
Firstly, ordering online with Magnus is easy and totally secure – All of our online payments are handled by our online payment provider Opayo. Opayo are the UK’s leading online payment provider using state of the art technology & encryption along with allowing us to effectively control fraud via their multi level security procedures. Magnus itself does not store any payment information or card details.
2. Is VAT included in the price?
VAT is included on all prices advertised at the UK’s standard rate of 20% – The VAT element of your purchase will be detailed on your receipt that you will receive with the footwear – There are certain lines / SKU’s advertised that are NOT inclusive of VAT – These are (on the whole) Safety Boots & Safety Wellingtons (Safety Shoes for some bizarre reason ARE subject to VAT).
If you are ordering from overseas your order will have its UK VAT element deducted before you pay – This is based purely on your delivery address and not cardholder address. If this is the case then you will become liable for your own country’s VAT & Import Duties when the goods are handled by your own Customs authorities upon entry into your own country.
Magnus Shoes Ltd are in the process of joining an iOSS scheme for European customers where you will pay VAT at the UK rate & we will pass this element of the transaction on to your relevant Country’s Government through this scheme – This is still under development though & will be updated at some point in the future when it becomes operational.
3. Can I pay by Cheque or Postal Order?
We no longer accept cheques as a method of payment – These used to attract hefty bank charges & left us wide open to fraud for weeks after they were cashed. We will accept Postal Orders made payable to Magnus Shoes Ltd – Please check all of the details before posting it to us with your order.
The most convenient and secure way of ordering is to use the Website – Even we don’t get to see your card details as these are processed by Opayo. We can process an order over the telephone subject to our usual restrictions on first orders etc on 01604 831271 or 01604 831751 – Please note that American Express (or Amex) is NOT accepted for anything other than instore purchases due to the high fees charged to us which if you then return an item we don’t get refunded to us.
4. How do I know if an item is available?
Our website offering is updated twice daily from Monday to Friday, Once your order is received we do a final check on its availability – There are some very rare instances where you order the last pair of a particular style / size (normally from the Sale or Bargain Bin sections) where we may of sold it within the last few hours from our retail shop at Head Office – if this happens you will be advised immediately using the contact details provided during the checkout process.
5. When will my card be debited?
All online transactions will be debited from your card immediately – all of our payment transactions are handled by Opayo as outlined above in point number one. For all other payment enquiries please give us a call on 01604 831271 or 01604 831751.
6. Are my details passed to any third parties?
Apart from the card processing company Opayo mentioned above & the courier company used to deliver your order, absolutely not. Any customer details that we do hold (& this is limited strictly to name, address, phone number & email address along with your purchase history) are held on our secure database and are never passed on to any other parties. By giving us your contact details you agree to receive from us, our catalogues twice yearly & any other advertising we choose to send out. You will only be contacted directly if there is a problem with a specific order.
